2010 Sully Supporter Drive

The Sully District Democratic Committee relies on the generosity of its members and friends. Our committee is supported financially solely by donations generated by our Sully Supporter program. We use these funds so that we can provide support to our House and Senate candidates, print flyers, pay for postage, send district letters to Democrats, maintain this website, and help in any way to turn Sully blue.

As we look to fund upcoming activities to support the 2010 election, please consider a donation of any amount. If you are able to contribute, please print and return the following donation form:

Marsden Endorsed by The Washington Post

Dave Marsden, Democratic Candidate for Virginia’s 37th Senate District, has been endorsed by the Washington Post. The 37th Senate District includes 16 of the Sully District’s 23 precincts. The special election for this race will be held Tuesday, January 12th.

The Post praises Marsden by calling him “a well-respected expert on incarceration, juvenile justice and rehabilitation.” The article contrasts Republican Candidate Steve Hunt’s offering of “mainly cliches” with Marsden’s “policy expertise, fiscal realism and sound judgment”.

The full endorsement text can be read at the Washington Post.

Important Reorganization Information

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee is made up of members from the 9 magisterial district committees of Fairfax County. FCDC and these nine districts reorganize every two years, with the next cycle being 2010-2011. The Sully District and the other magisterial districts will each have their own caucuses to establish membership and conduct their first meetings of the new committee afterward to elect a Chair and other such relevant positions and business.

To be considered for membership for the Sully District Democratic Committee you MUST complete a membership form and submit it with your dues of $75 made out to FCDC, to Mary Lee Cerillo by Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at 5 PM. In Memory of Ted Kennedy

Ted KennedyWe have lost a very special Democrat. Ted Kennedy, the Lion of the Senate, leaves an enormous hole in our hearts and our government.

In 46 years in the Senate, Kennedy not only represented the people of Massachusetts but all of us. President Obama said it well today, “the powerful were not his passion. Teddy cared for the least among us”.

He represented tirelessly the young, the old, the sick, the poor, the disabled and those denied basic civil rights. He understood the need to fight to hold our democracy and the importance of how we treat our people and the people of the world. He championed legislation in civil rights, health care, minimum wage, stem cell research and all the causes we Democrats hold dear.

He understood the heart and needs of the American people and for this, he was admired by his Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Indeed, it is the end of an era. Time Magazine called him “The brother who mattered most”. He certainly mattered the longest, and he mattered to us.

We have lost him, but we can carry on his legacy – and we must. As Teddy himself said in Denver last summer:
“The Work begins anew, Hope rises again, and the Dream lives on.”
