Upcoming Elections

Virginia votes every year.

Yes Virginia, there’s an election every year, so it’s important to stay informed and involved.

  • Odd-numbered years (like 2025): You’ll vote in state and local elections. This includes governors, state government in Richmond, mayors, counties, and local ballot issues. These races often have great impact on your day-to-day life, but fly under the radar for many folks.

  • Even-numbered years (like 2024, 2026): These are for federal elections. You’ll vote for members of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.

  • Every four years, during an even-numbered year (like 2024 or 2028), you also vote for president.

Because elections happen every year, stay registered, know your local voting dates, and understand what’s on your ballot each year. This helps you make your voice heard in every level of government. Learn more about elections, voter registration, and polling places at our Voters Corner.
